| Leishmania
Cutaneous Leishmaniasis (CL): This is the most common form of leishmaniasis and typically manifests as skin lesions. The lesions may appear weeks to months after being bitten by an infected sandfly. They can vary in size and appearance, from small papules to large ulcers, and may be painless or cause discomfort. Cutaneous leishmaniasis lesions usually heal spontaneously over several months to a year but can leave disfiguring scars.
Mucocutaneous Leishmaniasis (MCL): Mucocutaneous leishmaniasis is a more severe form of the disease that can occur when cutaneous leishmaniasis lesions spread to the mucous membranes of the nose, mouth, or throat. This form of leishmaniasis can cause destructive lesions in these areas, leading to facial disfigurement, difficulty breathing, and other complications.
Visceral Leishmaniasis (VL), also known as Kala-azar: Visceral leishmaniasis is the most severe form of the disease and can be fatal if left untreated. It affects the internal organs, particularly the spleen, liver, and bone marrow. Symptoms may include prolonged fever, weight loss, enlargement of the spleen and liver (hepatosplenomegaly), anemia, and decreased immunity. Without prompt and effective treatment, visceral leishmaniasis can lead to complications such as secondary infections and organ failure.

Different labs use different software to read the sample. See this post for more details.
One lab may say you have none, another may say you have a lot! - This may be solely due to the software they are using to estimate.
We deem lab specific values using values from the KM method for each specific lab to be the most reliable.
