Common knowledge amoung some professionals (MD and ND):
Magnesium: Some limited studies suggest that magnesium supplementation might have potential benefits in reducing tic severity, particularly in individuals with Tourette syndrome. Magnesium may have a calming effect on the nervous system, although more research is needed to determine its effectiveness for tics.
Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Omega-3 fatty acids found in fish oil might have anti-inflammatory properties that could potentially benefit individuals with Tourette syndrome. Some preliminary research suggests that omega-3 supplementation might have a modest effect on reducing tic severity, but further studies are needed to confirm its role.
Vitamin D: Adequate levels of vitamin D are important for overall health. While there's limited specific evidence related to Tourette syndrome, maintaining optimal vitamin D levels might have general health benefits.
Probiotics: While not directly related to Tourette syndrome, some research suggests that probiotics might have a role in influencing overall health, including potential effects on the gut-brain axis and inflammation. However, specific effects on Tourette syndrome require further investigation.
