Common knowledge amoung some professionals (MD and ND):
Vitamins and Minerals: Nutritional deficiencies are common in individuals with celiac disease due to malabsorption issues caused by damage to the small intestine. Some individuals may need supplements to address deficiencies in vitamins such as B12, D, and folate, as well as minerals like iron, calcium, and zinc. It's important to work with a healthcare professional to determine individual deficiencies and appropriate supplementation.
Probiotics: Some research suggests that probiotics might help improve gut health and promote a balanced microbiome in individuals with celiac disease. However, there isn't conclusive evidence supporting the use of probiotics as a specific treatment for celiac disease. Probiotics may aid in overall gut health but should not be considered a substitute for a gluten-free diet.
Digestive Enzymes: Digestive enzymes might assist in the breakdown of nutrients and alleviate symptoms in some individuals with celiac disease, particularly those experiencing persistent digestive issues. These enzymes can aid in the digestion of gluten or other nutrients that are difficult to digest due to intestinal damage. However, digestive enzymes are not a substitute for avoiding gluten entirely.
