Common knowledge amoung some professionals (MD and ND):
Vitamin D: Individuals with CKD may have reduced kidney function, which can affect the activation of vitamin D. Vitamin D supplements might be prescribed by healthcare professionals to help manage low vitamin D levels often seen in CKD. However, the dosage and type of vitamin D supplementation should be determined by healthcare providers.
Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Omega-3 supplements containing EPA and DHA have anti-inflammatory properties and may have potential benefits in supporting cardiovascular health in individuals with CKD. They might help reduce inflammation and decrease the risk of cardiovascular complications associated with CKD. However, their specific role in CKD management requires further research.
Probiotics: The use of probiotics in CKD is an area of ongoing research. Some studies suggest that probiotics might have potential benefits in managing complications related to CKD, such as reducing uremic toxins or improving gut health. However, more research is needed to establish their efficacy and safety in individuals with CKD.
Phosphate Binders and Vitamin B Complex: In later stages of CKD, phosphate binders might be prescribed to control phosphate levels in the blood. Additionally, vitamin B complex supplements might be recommended to address deficiencies associated with CKD.
