Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Omega-3 fatty acids found in fish oil might have potential benefits for mental health due to their anti-inflammatory properties. Some studies suggest that omega-3 supplementation might have modest effects on symptoms or cognitive function in individuals with schizophrenia, although further research is needed.
Vitamin D: Adequate levels of vitamin D are important for overall health, including mental health. Some research suggests a potential link between low vitamin D levels and certain mental health conditions. While evidence specific to schizophrenia is limited, maintaining optimal vitamin D levels might have general health benefits.
N-Acetylcysteine (NAC): NAC is a compound that acts as a precursor to glutathione, an antioxidant. Some studies suggest that NAC might have potential benefits for individuals with schizophrenia, possibly in reducing symptoms or improving cognitive function. However, more research is needed to establish its effectiveness.
Probiotics: Some emerging research explores the potential link between gut health and mental health. While not directly related to schizophrenia, probiotics might influence the gut-brain axis and potentially impact mental health. However, specific effects on schizophrenia require further investigation.
