Common knowledge amoung some professionals (MD and ND):
Probiotics: Some individuals with chronic Lyme disease might consider probiotics to support gut health. Antibiotic treatments for Lyme disease may disrupt the balance of gut microbiota, and probiotics might help restore a healthy gut flora. However, evidence supporting their use specifically for chronic Lyme disease is lacking.
Vitamins and Minerals: Individuals with chronic Lyme disease might have specific nutritional needs or deficiencies due to factors such as compromised immune function or chronic inflammation. Supplements such as vitamins (e.g., vitamin D, B vitamins) or minerals (like magnesium or zinc) might be considered to address identified deficiencies. However, the use of supplements should be guided by healthcare professionals.
Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Omega-3 supplements containing EPA and DHA have anti-inflammatory properties and may support overall health. Some individuals might consider omega-3 supplementation for potential anti-inflammatory effects, although evidence supporting their use specifically for chronic Lyme disease is limited.
Herbal Supplements: Some individuals with chronic Lyme disease might explore herbal supplements such as Japanese knotweed, cat's claw, or garlic, among others. These herbs are believed by some to have antimicrobial or immune-modulating properties. However, the evidence supporting their effectiveness in treating chronic Lyme disease is limited and requires further research.
