Common knowledge amoung some professionals (MD and ND):
Probiotics: Some studies suggest that certain probiotics might help modulate the immune system and potentially improve symptoms in individuals with eczema. Specifically, probiotics containing strains such as Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG and Lactobacillus fermentum have been researched for their potential benefits in eczema. However, more research is needed to determine the specific strains, dosages, and effectiveness in managing eczema.
Fish Oil/Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Omega-3 supplements, particularly those rich in EPA and DHA, may have anti-inflammatory properties that could potentially benefit individuals with eczema. Some studies have suggested that omega-3 supplementation might help reduce inflammation and itching associated with eczema, but results have been mixed.
Vitamin D: Maintaining adequate vitamin D levels may support overall skin health and immune function. Some studies suggest a possible link between vitamin D deficiency and increased eczema severity. However, evidence supporting vitamin D supplementation specifically for eczema is limited.
Quercetin: Quercetin, a natural flavonoid found in various fruits and vegetables, has anti-inflammatory properties and might help in managing inflammatory skin conditions like eczema. However, research on its efficacy for eczema is limited.
Probiotic Foods: Incorporating probiotic-rich foods into the diet, such as yogurt, kefir, sauerkraut, or kimchi, may support gut health, which is linked to overall immune function and could potentially benefit skin health. However, their specific impact on eczema requires further study.
