Terrabacteria group: NCBI 1783272, [clade]

Back to details

| Terrabacteria group

  1. Actinobacteria:

    • Many Actinobacteria are known for their positive contributions to health. For example, some members of this group, like Bifidobacteria, are considered probiotics and are associated with a variety of health benefits. They play a role in fermenting fibers and producing short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), which can have positive effects on gut health.
    • Actinobacteria also include some pathogenic species that can cause diseases, such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which causes tuberculosis.
  2. Cyanobacteria:

    • Cyanobacteria are primarily known for their role in photosynthesis and oxygen production. In aquatic environments, certain cyanobacteria can produce toxins, known as cyanotoxins, which can be harmful to both aquatic organisms and humans if water contaminated with these toxins is consumed or contacted.
    • Some cyanobacteria are being studied for potential health benefits, such as their ability to produce bioactive compounds.
  3. Firmicutes:

    • As mentioned in the previous response, Firmicutes is a diverse phylum within the Terrabacteria clade. Some Firmicutes species are associated with health benefits, while others may be linked to conditions such as obesity and inflammatory diseases.
