Human Microbiota: Aerococcus species have been identified as part of the normal microbiota in humans, particularly in the genitourinary tract. They are generally considered commensal bacteria.
Opportunistic Pathogens: Some Aerococcus species, such as Aerococcus urinae, have been implicated in infections, particularly urinary tract infections (UTIs). Aerococcus species may also be associated with infective endocarditis and other infections, particularly in individuals with underlying health conditions or compromised immune systems.
Antimicrobial Susceptibility: Aerococcus species are generally susceptible to various antibiotics, and antimicrobial treatment may be prescribed in cases of infection. However, resistance patterns can vary.
